Kids on the Block
Kids on the Block is an educational and entertaining puppet performance. The focus of Kids on the Block is to increase acceptance and appreciation of differences, which are central to our communities. By providing awareness of disabilities and social issues through the use of large puppets, the Kids on the Block puppet troupe is able to educate and dispel myths relating to individuals who have disabilities. The Kids on the Block troupe has been performing for Saskatchewan audiences for more than two decades. The Saskatchewan Association for Community Living (SACL) troupe is one of 1,600 active Kids on the Block programs worldwide presenting the message that “it’s OK to be different.” The program is designed for children between five and 12 years of age, but can benefit people of all ages! We present to schools, clubs, daycares, conferences, and other events. The 45-minute show includes four skits. After each skit, children are given an opportunity to ask the puppets questions about their disability, feelings or experiences. The program also includes an educational activity booklet that can be used before or after the program to further the learning experience.
