The 2009 Win the Wheels Lottery has been a successful year. This year money was raised to support the SACL, our Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current and Lloydminster branches. We participated in many special events such as the Regina Buffalo Days and the Saskatoon Cruise weekend which helped to promote our organization and sell many tickets.

The winner of the early bird prize -a Piaggio Fly 50 scooter, was Adam Murray from Weyburn. Thank you to each and every person who bought a ticket in this year's lottery so far and supported SACL and our branches. SACL would also like to thank all the individuals, branches, volunteers and organizations that helped ensure the success of this year's lottery. This year's lottery partners included: Crestview Chrysler, Rawlco Radio, Flaman, Bridge City Auto Sports, Seventy Seven Signs and Stobbe Photography.

Flowers of Hope

In the past fiscal year the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living sent a spring and holiday Flowers of Hope card. The spring card spoke of the importance of SACL's Family Network and the role the network plays in building power, knowledge and strength for each family that is a member. The card also focused on the benefits the Deutsch family has found in being members of the Family Network, and how they had never been a part of a community until they became members of the Network.

This year's holiday card served as a reminder of the importance of family, friends and reflection. The card again highlighted the work of the Family Network, but it was the message reminding our donors that we still need to work towards a community where every individual is valued, included and supported that helped SACL raise almost $19,000 dollars.

2008 Dream Car Lottery

The 2008 Dream Car Lottery had another successful year; money was raised to support SACL, our Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Humboldt, Outlook and Redvers branches. This year we were able to take part in new events that included the Broadway Street Fair in Saskatoon and Cruise weekend which helped us make over $95,000 in this year's lottery.

This year's lucky winner was Lionel Rokosh from Regina and our second prize winner was Crystel Knight from Lloydminster. Thank you to each and every person who bought a ticket in this year's lottery and supported SACL and our branches. SACL would also like to thank all the individuals, branches, volunteers and organizations that helped ensure the success of this year's lottery. This year's lottery partners included: Valley Ford Hague, Krazy Kiley's Electronics, Flaman Group of Companies and Digital Signage.

Saskatchewan Institute of Community Living

The Saskatchewan Institute on Community Living (SICL) had a very successful year in 2008/2009. SICL was able to provide grants to a number of communities throughout Saskatchewan as well as surpass the budgeted grant to the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living (SACL).

The dynamics of the recycling business continually change. We are now in a more variable pick-up and delivery mode and thus require a storage system that enables inventory control and monitoring. To facilitate this operational change we have moved our office from the original location on St. George Avenue to a combined office and  warehouse facility located on 34th Street. SICL now provides a second Donation Station in Saskatoon, the 34th Street location in the northwest and the Avalon in the southeast.

The Saskatchewan Institute on Community Living is at a very significant milestone in its operation, 2009 marks its 20th anniversary. The SICL incorporated in 1989 and signed the first contract with Value Village December 1989. The first office was opened in May 1990 to supply the Regina Value Village store. This was followed by an office in Saskatoon with the Saskatoon Value Village store opening in August 1990. We started our partnership with Value Village by receiving an interest free advance of $20,000 to cover start up costs in the spring of 1990 and now 20 years later we have sold in excess of 21 million dollars of used goods to Value Village.

As we reflect and celebrate our 20th year of operation the Board of SICL sincerely thanks the citizens of Saskatchewan for their generosity and loyal support. We also acknowledge with great appreciation the honorable and respectful relationship we have had with Value Village over the past 20 years and look forward to many more years of a mutually beneficial partnership.

Operating a business for 20 years where each year surpasses the previous is truly remarkable and special recognition must be given to the many dedicated staff who contributed to this success story. SICL will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary on October 3, 2009 at which time the many people who have contributed to this success will be recognized.

The future is always an unknown, however, with the history of the past and the leadership we have in place for the future I feel very confident that SICL will continue on the path forged this past 20 years and enjoy even more and greater success.
