Special fundraising projects

From time to time, the Association hosts fundraising projects and events to benefit the SACL, its particular programs or projects. Just as important as monetary donations are the volunteers who pull together to make an event or project happen. If you'd like to contribute in any way, call the Fundraising Coordinator, ph: (306) 955-3344; fax: (306) 373-3070 or email: [email protected].

Bigger, brighter Designing Spaces

The SACL is a non-profit organization that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families to live a good life in the community. The Designing Spaces concept is a natural extension of this mission. What we didn’t expect was the phenomenal response! Designing Spaces Contemporary 2003 welcomed more than 5400 people through the home. In addition to this exceptional response, over 300 volunteers and over 100 suppliers helped to make the event successful. The end result of all of this dedication was over $70,000 raised to support SACL’s work.

Using supplies and services donated from local businesses, a volunteer Design Team united their artistic talents to create the East Meets West theme both inside and outside the home. Without our volunteer Design Team investing countless hours of time and energy, the fabulous East Meets West theme would not come alive. We are very excited to have back with us eight designers from last year and we are happy to welcome eight new faces to our team.

Your ticket means a chance to win $1,000 gift certificate

SaskTel is once again are providing generous sponsorship support. You can look forward to many new and innovative products from SaskTel in the Designing Spaces home. The media is also a large part of the event; CTV, the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, C95 and Rock 102FM are going to do their best to help everyone know all about Designing Spaces. And of course, the collector’s magazine you all will receive when you go through the home is being produced by Saskatoon’s very own Renovations - Home Improvement & Design Magazine. Each ticket purchased to Designing Spaces East Meets West 2004 allows you to enter to win a $1,000 gift certificate from Pier One Imports. The SACL has discovered that amazing things truly can happen when so many dedicated players come together to benefit the community.

Speaking of community, we remind you once again that Designing Spaces is a project of the SACL, a non-profit organization that supports people with intellectual disabilities and their families. Fundraising projects like Designing Spaces are essential to help us to expand our programs and services to reach more people with intellectual disabilities. These include advocacy, employment opportunities, the Saskatchewan Family Network, and Kids on the Block.

Exciting dinner party & auction October 29

This year’s Designing Spaces event will also reach people in a new way through the addition of a fundraising Dinner Party held at the Top of the Inn on October 29. This gala evening not only raises money for the SACL but provides the opportunity to meet all of the designers participating this year. There also will be a live auction with the chance to bid on items from the home as well as other unique items that have generously been donated by local suppliers. The entire night will be filled with fun and surprises - wait until you see what the theme is going to be!

Designing Spaces East Meets West 2004 is sure to be another quality event that not only raises funds so SACL can help individuals with intellectual disabilities across the province, but will showcase the rich talents of Saskatoon’s design community. All in all, it’s an exciting event where everyone can share their strengths and talents to create a better community.

In the meantime, for more information or to volunteer call the Fundraising Coordinator at (306) 955-3344.
